We’ve just heard that we’ve made it into the UK’s highly selective ‘Good Beer Guide’ for 2022 which puts our local bar & restaurant in amongst the best pubs, bars and breweries, where people can find the finest cask beers available within the UK.
The Good Beer Guide claims to be the biggest and best book of pubs and breweries in Britain, with thousands of recommendations from CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) volunteers across the country. The volunteers chose every pub personally, visit the venue and rate them on their atmosphere, quality of beer and how well they cater for real ale drinkers.
Graham Blaikie, owner of the Mercat Grill said: “I’m so delighted to be in the latest edition of the Good Beer Guide. It really is an honour to be up there with the UK’s finest pubs and bars that serve real ale. For the consumer, it can be tricky finding the best place in town for a good old-fashioned pint of real ale, in a venue with a great atmosphere and superb service – so this handy passport to the best venues really is ideal.
“Here at the Mercat Grill, we provide a range of real ales, which come from the local, award-winning craft beer company Stewart Brewing and we rotate these fine quality beers for our customers. We take great pride in serving our real ales, in the right way – with good old-fashioned service at the bar or to perfectly accompany one of our many, homemade dishes served up in our restaurant.”
Jon Addinall, pubs officer for Edinburgh & SE Scotland at CAMRA said: “The prime reason that the Mercat Grill was selected by our members for the Good Beer Guide is the quality of the real ale on sale – which is of a consistently high quality due to Grahams’ enthusiasm and long-standing cellaring skills.
“In South East Scotland the guide has 26 entries in the City of Edinburgh, 17 in the rest of the Lothians (12 of which are located in East Lothian) and 18 in the Borders. These are selected from around 370 pubs that sell real ale so they really do need to stand out to make it into our guide.”
Copies of the Good Beer Guide 2022 can be purchased for £15.99 at https://shop1.camra.org.uk/product/the-good-beer-guide-2022/?_ga=2.8155762.1734948998.1637751486-796498649.1637751486.

We’re holding a Whisky Tasting lunch on Tuesday 19th October with a special guest from Lindores Abbey Distillery in Fife, which classes itself as the ‘spiritual home of Scotch whisky’!
Join us from 1pm and we’ll have a sociable, fun and informative session, which will be enjoyed over a delicious three-course lunch.
Murray Stevenson, the brand ambassador from Lindores Abbey Distillery will be talking to our guests, taking you through the intriguing history of Lindores Abbey (located in Lindores, Fife) which apparently has widely recognised links to the earliest written reference of Scotch whisky. Its whisky has been revived after 523 years and the spirit is back flowing from its copper stills, of this ancient site. And you can sample and enjoy it on 19th October from 1pm for only £25pp! Join us for some great chat on this single malt whisky over a three-course lunch.
To book a place, simply call 0800 124 4112 or email info@mercatgrill.com.
Our new, ‘MG Business Hub’ opens this Friday! With so many of you, still working from home – we’ve created a new business hub, here at the Mercat Grill to help homeworkers looking for a change of work space and get back some of that ‘Friday feeling’!
We know how isolating it can sometimes feel, working alone from home – so we thought we’d create an area for locals looking for a change of scenery to get on with their daily tasks or for a socially distanced meeting.
We have a special seating area, in the quieter area of our venue, where for only £10 – you can spend a two-hour slot, anytime between 9am until 12pm every Friday working away. You’ll have access to power points; free Wi-Fi and we’ll bring you a bacon or egg roll and a fresh cup of coffee/tea!
Our new MG Business Hub will be available on a Friday from 9am to 12pm. Simply call us on 0131 665 3354 to book a socially distanced space, for up to two hours.
