A Lunch of Learning & Tasting Lindores Abbey Distillery’s Single Malt Whisky

We’re holding a Whisky Tasting lunch on Tuesday 19th October with a special guest from Lindores Abbey Distillery in Fife, which classes itself as the ‘spiritual home of Scotch whisky’!

 

Join us from 1pm and we’ll have a sociable, fun and informative session, which will be enjoyed over a delicious three-course lunch.

 

Murray Stevenson, the brand ambassador from Lindores Abbey Distillery will be talking to our guests, taking you through the intriguing history of Lindores Abbey (located in Lindores, Fife) which apparently has widely recognised links to the earliest written reference of Scotch whisky.  Its whisky has been revived after 523 years and the spirit is back flowing from its copper stills, of this ancient site.  And you can sample and enjoy it on 19th October from 1pm for only £25pp! Join us for some great chat on this single malt whisky over a three-course lunch.

Our New ‘MG Business Hub’ Opens

Our new, ‘MG Business Hub’ opens this Friday! With so many of you, still working from home – we’ve created a new business hub, here at the Mercat Grill to help homeworkers looking for a change of work space and get back some of that ‘Friday feeling’!

We know how isolating it can sometimes feel, working alone from home – so we thought we’d create an area for locals looking for a change of scenery to get on with their daily tasks or for a socially distanced meeting.

We have a special seating area, in the quieter area of our venue, where for only £10 – you can spend a two-hour slot, anytime between 9am until 12pm every Friday working away. You’ll have access to power points; free Wi-Fi and we’ll bring you a bacon or egg roll and a fresh cup of coffee/tea!

Our new MG Business Hub will be available on a Friday from 9am to 12pm. Simply call us on 0131 665 3354 to book a socially distanced space, for up to two hours.

Join us for our ‘Four Corners of Scotland’ Whisky Tasting Event for Charity

Join us for our ‘Four Corners of Scotland’ Whisky Tasting Event for Charity on Wednesday 28th April at 19:30! Being organised by the Scottish Licensed Trade Association, we’re hosting the event together with 1775 Whisky Passport!

It will be a hybrid affair – held online (hosted via 1775 Whisky Passport’s Facebook Live and YouTube channels) and a small number of guests outdoors (up to 20 – weather dependent) can attend in person here at the Mercat Grill!

Hosted by co-owners of 1775 Whisky Passport, Neil Forbes and myself Graham Blaikie, we’ll take fellow whisky lovers on a tasting tour, of Scotland’s ‘four corners’ in a fun and informative session, talking through the;

 

Clynelish 14-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Highlands

Cardhu 12-Year-Old Single Malt from Speyside

Caol Ila 12-Year-Old Single Malt from the isle of Islay

Glenkinchie 12-Year-Old Single Malt from East Lothian

Thank you so much to all of you who completed our survey on your take-away preferences.  We’ve taken your feedback onboard and have decided to trial some new click & collect take-away options, which we can’t wait to dish up for you – starting this weekend😊.

 

Every Friday You Can Enjoy;

  • Our hugely popular Hand Battered Haddock & Rustic Chips for two people with either a bottle of prosecco, wine or coke/diet coke for £22.50.

 

  • Fondue (for two – £10 or four people – £22.50) – this is our handmade, rich cheese dish provided with a selection of fresh breads and just needs to be heated up. The Fondue for four, includes either a bottle of prosecco, wine or coke/diet coke for £22.50. We also have a gluten free option.

 

  • Our Haggis Cigars (£10 per pack of four – vegetarian option available too) – lovingly produced by us – our Haggis Cigars are filled with wonderful, tasty haggis, encased in a light, crispy, spring roll style pastry and served with orange marmalade and a peppercorn sauce. Simply heat them by frying for five minutes or in the oven for 15-20 mins at 180°

 

  • My talented mother’s homemade Cream Filled Crunchy Topped Choux Buns (two for £6), are made with delicious French pastry dough, chantilly cream, crispy layers and a chocolate base – enough to satisfy two people for dessert! She’s also created scrumptious Salted Caramel Cake (£6) – and you get two generous portions, to be enjoyed for dessert or whenever you like!

All of the above dishes are available for collection from 4-7pm.

 

This Saturday New Take-Away Treats that we’re delighted to be offering are;

  • Double Puffed Steak & Ale Pie (£12.95) – Homemade with prime diced beef from our local butcher J Gilmore; it’s slow cooked in beer, a tasty gravy & served with rustic chips. This comes ready to eat – no heating required!

 

  • *New* Thai Green Chicken or Veg Curry – (£10.50/£9) – Our head chef has created a new tantalising Thai Green Curry, available with chicken or vegetables and dished up with rice. This comes ready to eat – no heating required!

All orders must be placed by the night before but please order as far in advance as possible – to ensure you secure your favourite dish or dessert!

Our Latest Award Win – ‘Pub/Bistro of the Year’

We are super chuffed to find out we’ve won the award for ‘Pub/Bistro of the Year’ at the 2020 Food & Drinks Awards, organised by Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce!  Our latest award win was announced at the recent virtual awards ceremony, where we beat off stiff competition from the other four finalists; The Ducks Inn, EH Twenty Bar and Kitchen, The Longniddry Inn and The Royal Mackintosh.

Graham Blaikie, owner of the Mercat Grill said: “It was such fantastic, positive news, finding out that we’d won during what is such a challenging and difficult time.  The win really gave our team a great boast and we’re so delighted to be recognised for all the efforts we continually put into making the Mercat Grill a great place to come for dining.”

Our Festive Menu & Opening Hours Throughout the Festive Period

We hope you’re doing well. We’re delighted to let you know that we’re open now and we’d love you to join us and get into the festive spirit with our special 3-course Christmas menu for only £25pp!

We are fully booked for Christmas Day, but you can certainly get into festive mode as we dish up our sensational seasonal festive dishes from 12:00 until 18:15 every day from today until Wednesday 23rd December.  And now, for those who wish, you can indulge in a festive drink with your meal!

Simply pre-book on 0131 665 3354 and we ask for a £10pp deposit to secure your booking.

If you need to cancel or we have to close or alter your booking due to the changing situation with regulations, surrounding COVID-19 we’ll issue a Mercat Grill voucher for the amount paid.  Currently, we can only take bookings of up to six people (in total) from a maximum of two households, for indoor dining and we need to have customers departing our premises by 20:00.

25 Dec – Fully Booked

26 & 27 Dec – (12-5pm – last food orders 3:30pm)

We are continuing to do everything within our power to keep you safe, when you join us at the Mercat Grill.  Please note – with the changing situation with Covid 19 – our plans detailed may change, as we follow the Scottish Government’s guidance.

We have taken the decision to close our doors from 4 January and plan to reopen in February.  We wish you a wonderful, happy & healthy Christmas and New Year.  We really do hope we see you here at the Mercat Grill, for some festive cheer this month or in the early part of 2021!  Thanks a million for all your support in what has been a truly challenging year.  We appreciate every kind comment and visit.
