We’ve got a great range of regular events for our customers, from charity car washes, quiz nights, coffee mornings for dogs (and their owners!), family fun days, wine tasting nights to cocktail master classes.
On Saturday 7th April, we will be taking guests back to the decade of the Rubik’s cube, Ronald Regan, R.E.M and Back to the Future with its 80’s Themed Night, being jointly organised by local Malcolm Parry and ourselves to raise vital funds for the charity ‘Scottish Association for Mental Health’ (SAMH).
For only £10pp, the evening will start at 19:30 with a quiz followed by a buffet and then disco – all in the theme of the decade of decadence! And with all proceeds going to SAMH charity, a very worthwhile organisation that helps people across Scotland with better mental health and well-being.
Graham Blaikie, owner of the Mercat Grill said: “I was approached by my friend Malcolm (also known as ‘Wee Running Man’) who told me he’s raising money for SAMH by running the John Muir Way Ultra Marathon on 31 March, a long way at 50k! We thought together we could also organise another fundraiser event with our 80’s Themed Night, less energetic but a great fun evening, with food, entertainment and good company all in the mix! We hope to raise as much money as possible and awareness of mental health so please do come along with family and friends and feel free to dress up, if you wish!”
Malcolm Parry, from Whitecraig added: “I run because it helps my mental state and all-round well-being and I am very fortunate that I can do so. In return, I decided I wanted to give something back. I have friends and family who battle with mental health conditions. A friend who was close to me, some days couldn’t find a reason to leave his room and hold down a job. He had a dark cloud above him and couldn’t see the point in life. It’s time we all recognized that these are serious issues that we need to understand and help with, so please help me by donating to this wonderful charity by contributing to my run and/or coming along to our 80’s Themed Night.”

More Beer News!;
New, Exclusive Beer Available Here! – We are delighted to announce that we’re now selling Tennent Caledonian’s beer ‘Outpost IPA’ on draft and we’re only one of 50 hostelries in Scotland selling it! So do come in and give it a try. For £3.95 a pint, it boasts subtle fruity notes which are dominated by strong, malty grain flavours. We would particularly recommend this 5% ABV beer with one of our chicken dishes like our Chicken Balmoral. Yum.
New Bottled Beers! – We’ve increased our selection and now have over 30 bottled beers! We’ve got new additions like Fierce Day Shift, a fiercely hopped American pale ale (£4.30) from Aberdeen, East Lothian’s Eyeball Yellow, a pale, intensely malty lager that celebrates the flavours that pale malt can bring to a beer: rich, toasty, bready, with a hint of sweetness (£3.50) to Siren Liquid Mistress (£3.70) a Red IPA from Berkshire where burnt biscuit and raisin from the malt base is balanced by the grapefruit and peach flavour spark from Amarillo and Cascade hop varieties. Come in and try a few!
Our independent, family run bar and restaurant, has added another award win to our portfolio by scooping the ‘Commitment to Student and Graduate Engagement’ award from the Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce (MELCC).
The awards ceremony, held at the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh, received a great turnout with over 300 guests from local businesses – all members of the MELCC. We beat off two other finalists, Edinburgh College and the Mortgage Advice Bureau Network Partner Scotland.
“It was fantastic to be recognised for the initiatives we’ve invested in to help students and graduates. It’s vital to support students (whether at school, college, university – or post grads) with real industry experience. The right training in these early years is key to creating successful operators in the future and all businesses need to play their part in this educating process.”
